500 Word Critique on Artsthread.com

I have researched a number of relevant fashion blogs. One I came across was artsthread.com. This blogging site is where fashion graduates upload their work and promote it to the public and designers. This blog is a good idea because it helps graduate students exhibit and get their work out into the world. Also because it’s online it can be seen globally. It is a good tool to have because it helps them out and it’s a fast process. As it is online it has easy access and you are able to reach it from anywhere. The layout on this blog is clean and everything is easy to find. I like this layout because it’s simple and it contrasts with the images uploaded. The moving pictures make it interesting because it shows a range of different things to look at.  You are able to see what everyone else is doing so you can find a way to make your work different. This also helps you get into industry as you can see what the latest trends are. This blog has a range of different materials and processes, which gives more variety. I think that this is a good idea because it caters to different peoples interests. This has inspired me to use different media such as photography, graphics and scanning in drawings. The content of the posts are really informative and descriptive. Based on that idea I need to critique my work in depth so the public knows what I’m on about.  The titles are bold and block colour, which makes them stand out, and easier understood. This makes it look crisp and more professional.  Every piece of work is backed up by their inspiration and how they’ve developed that idea.
On this blogging site I’ve found Allistair Covells work. I really like his textile print designs because they are really vibrant and exciting. The prints have a playful feel to them, almost childlike because it looks like colours splattered on the piece. His designs have a graphic feel to them because they are crisp and could be produced using Photoshop. I like the idea of mixing graphics with paint because it shows experimentation with materials. The contrast between the plain background and his work works really we because it stands out on the site. Another thing I like about his print is that he uses it in interior and fashion. This shows that he caters to a broad range of areas. I also like the idea that he doesn’t focus on current trends which sets him apart from everything else. He shows his development of fashion drawings so we are able to see where his idea has come from. On every post he uploads he uses his branding name so we know it’s his work and are able to distinguish it out. His work is all linked so the public knows it’s his designs, or collection. From this idea I’m going to link my work so it looks more professional.
