Experimenting with Photography

These are outcomes that I have produced using a digital camera. I have looked at Fashion Photographers such as Nick Knight, Rankin and Tim Walker. These Photographers have inspired me to not focus on just the clothing but the accessories and background. For my outcomes I found it more accessible to use jewellery instead of a model as it's less time consuming and easier to control. In these outcomes I have focused on the strong contrast between light and dark. This resulted in light reflecting of the jewellery. I think these outcomes are successful because they create patterns and show a lot of texture. If I was going to improve on these and if I had more time I would display these pieces on a model so my outcomes would look more professional.

Start of FMP-Julie Verhoeven Research

For my FMP I have decided to look at fashion illustration and create larger scale pieces of me own. These pages are from my sketch book looking at the fashion illustrator Julie Verhoeven. I decided to research this illustrator because her designs are dynamic as they are vibrant and exploding with colour. Julie Verhoeven's illustrations are playful and messy yet they look sophisticated and professional. Her illustrations have inspired me to use mix media because doing that gives it texture and depth.

Fabric Samples Portfolio page

This is a page of fabric samples in my presentation portfolio. I have used different processes such as fabric pen, cross stitch and Photoshop. I have linked them all together by using the same colour palette and the same flower but presenting it in a different way. I have used Photoshop to create an all over print to show that it can be used in fashion, not just in interior. While creating these samples, without knowing I have used this season's colour palette. This shows that fashion and interior have the same trends so they link in with each other. I have presented these in my portfolio neatly so they look professional and also a collection. This page has worked really well because everything links and it shows a variety of different processes.

Fashion Figures

I have created this sheet my experimenting with Illustrator. I have created this to focus on look at the human form as a fashion cannon.

Fashion Illustrations

For my portfolio I have created a variety of Fashion Illustrations using Illustrator.  I've got my inspiration from magazine (Vogue and Elle). For further development I am going to continue to creating illustrations adding hand drawn materials to show experimentation with process and techniques. I think that these outcomes are successful because they look clean and crisp.

Ikea Coffee Table Task

We were given the task to design and create an innovative design using a basic Ikea coffee table. My specialist area is fashion so we decided to turn the table into a wearable garment. We used recycled cardboard to create the tiered structure. Our inspiration for this design came from the Japanese fashion designer 'Issey Miyake'. After creating the structure we decided to use denim to cover it with because denim is big this season. We went to charity shops and used old worn out jeans in this piece.
Overall I think this outcome was successful because we didn't take it as a table and we transformed it into something different.

500 Word Critique on Artsthread.com

I have researched a number of relevant fashion blogs. One I came across was artsthread.com. This blogging site is where fashion graduates upload their work and promote it to the public and designers. This blog is a good idea because it helps graduate students exhibit and get their work out into the world. Also because it’s online it can be seen globally. It is a good tool to have because it helps them out and it’s a fast process. As it is online it has easy access and you are able to reach it from anywhere. The layout on this blog is clean and everything is easy to find. I like this layout because it’s simple and it contrasts with the images uploaded. The moving pictures make it interesting because it shows a range of different things to look at.  You are able to see what everyone else is doing so you can find a way to make your work different. This also helps you get into industry as you can see what the latest trends are. This blog has a range of different materials and processes, which gives more variety. I think that this is a good idea because it caters to different peoples interests. This has inspired me to use different media such as photography, graphics and scanning in drawings. The content of the posts are really informative and descriptive. Based on that idea I need to critique my work in depth so the public knows what I’m on about.  The titles are bold and block colour, which makes them stand out, and easier understood. This makes it look crisp and more professional.  Every piece of work is backed up by their inspiration and how they’ve developed that idea.
On this blogging site I’ve found Allistair Covells work. I really like his textile print designs because they are really vibrant and exciting. The prints have a playful feel to them, almost childlike because it looks like colours splattered on the piece. His designs have a graphic feel to them because they are crisp and could be produced using Photoshop. I like the idea of mixing graphics with paint because it shows experimentation with materials. The contrast between the plain background and his work works really we because it stands out on the site. Another thing I like about his print is that he uses it in interior and fashion. This shows that he caters to a broad range of areas. I also like the idea that he doesn’t focus on current trends which sets him apart from everything else. He shows his development of fashion drawings so we are able to see where his idea has come from. On every post he uploads he uses his branding name so we know it’s his work and are able to distinguish it out. His work is all linked so the public knows it’s his designs, or collection. From this idea I’m going to link my work so it looks more professional.
